Organismal Dynamics
Department Presentation
Developmental processes often operate beyond the level of individual cells or tissues, shaping the organism as an integrated whole and coordinating the function of its components and organs. The Organismal Dynamics Department investigates how gene regulation, internal cues, and a changing external environment influence how animals develop, adapt, and function as complete systems. Using a diverse set of experimental models—including yeast, primary cell lines, worms, flies, fish, and mice—our research spans scales from sub‑cellular architecture to organism‑level physiology. We explore the structure and function of key cellular components such as the nucleus, mitochondria, and proteasome, as well as phenomena including bioenergetics, muscle development, hormonal effects and inter-organ communication. Through this integrative approach, we aim to uncover how these molecular and physiological mechanisms shape phenomena that extend beyond organ development, including diseases, neurodegeneration, longevity, reproduction, and whole‑body homeostasis.
